Yikes!
Yikes, what happened; or Happy Birthday to Me [sarcasm]
May 20, 2006
It was to be Rosie's first run in a flyball tourney. We rode over early in the morning, to be home
on my birthday; as well as we all prefer to spend the night home with our hubbies when possible. Rosie and I traveled
with Terry and Tchaika; as the Volvo had recently stranded us and Ward didn't trust it. We were almost to the exit off
I-4 when I glanced around and spied the dastardly white sports car where it most definitely did not belong. And worse,
most definitely headed for us.
Our introduction to median cross overs. High speed interstate motor vehicle collision [mvc].
Rollover. An auto accident of the worst imaginable. The collision closed the interstate, made the local news. Fortunately for us, as our team mates were behind us; and they were rapidly on the scene helping out. Taking
care of our dogs; I was very worried about Ms Rosie. I'm told I hollered more about Rosie than me.
Concentrating on Rosie instead of me was probably just as well. I spent 40 days in the hospital; had
two very long major surgeries before coming home to the family room converted to recovery room.
Rosie is fine; our friends Terry and Tchaika are well. I'm recovering and learning about life as mobility
impaired. Cannon is learning to be my assistance dog. Rosie is helping to teach him.
I'm finally developing an interest in what's going on with me, and what happened. This is what the bionic leg looked
like before the first surgery: The broken right leg is the worse injury, the femur is busted into many crispy critters,
the knee busted, then the tib/fib fracture. Also broke right hand, right collarbone and left hand. Then for good
measure throw in soft tissue ligament and tendon damage to the left knee, right ankle and left wrist. Mustn't forget
the split open head and concussion.
But enough! I've decided I don't much want to pollute our home space with tales of trials, tribulations and recovery
so I started a recovery journey blog for those who might want more detail or somewhat regular updates.
Most thank everyone who wrote, called, sent cards, well wishes. Folks coming to visit and help. Thanks so
much all and thanks for the continuing help and prodding!
I intend to update the journey blog periodically with more information, tales of how we are learning and coping, as well as recent xrays and photos.

Catching up on News ....
I meant our home page to be a newsy type affair, with new posts as interesting things happened. Over the past few
months, Norfolk (the foster Terv house guest) has needed to take front and center.
So, time to catch up! This is all about Cannon. I've decided that this year has been Cannon's special year,
I guess sort of like a girl's debutante season. After coming back from Texas ...
- March 25 & 26 Cannon made his Rally Novice B Debut at the Central Florida Obedience Club Trials in Eustis Florida.
Day 1, with mom a nervous wreck, we scored a 92. Day 2, just slightly less nervous, we scored a 94 and Third Place.
- April 13 - 15 Cannon and I hit the road for Perry Georgia and the Peach Blossom Cluster. Fri we took WD/BOW for
2 points under Judge Thomas Kilcullen and finished our Rally Novice (RN) title with an 88. Mom blew 3 stations and Cannon
did great. Sat was the Belgian Tervuren Regional day; Cannon was Reserve WD to a 5 pt major under Judge Meredith Johnson-Snyder
and we went back to Rally Novice for another qualifying score.
- May 3 Cannon's girl friend, CH Sanroyale's Annie Get Your Gun TT presented him with 8 bouncing baby puppies!
Check out the puppy page.
- May 6 - 7 Cannon and I decided to take ourselves down to the fairgrounds in Orlando and enter the IABCA UCI International
Dog Show. We showed in the first 3 shows (the 4th show conflicted with Rosie's flyball practice). Cannon earned
his three V1 certificates for his Int CH title and took a Group Two!

House guest
We have a house guest visiting with us. He came home with Rosie and I Sunday from a flyball practice fun day.
Meet Norfolk! Norfolk is a 8 year old Belgian Tervuren whose owners could no longer keep him. ABTC, the American Belgian Tervuren Club is working to find a home for Norfolk.
Norfolk is a wonderfully kind and loving gentleman. Very well mannered, handsome, smart; and he speaks French!
Read more about Norfolk and see some more photos on his webpage.

Go Cannon!
That's our Boy!
I'm not sure how it all happened, but my family in San Antonio and Elly combined to talk me into making a road trip with
the dogs to Texas. It was a combined dog show and visit with the family. Traveling alone, I took both Cannon and
Rosie. Umm, what was I thinking? Well, the kids had a jolly good time, staying in different hotel rooms, staying
with my sister and her family, visiting and staying with Elly on the Ranch. We all had a grand time.
And, to make it all very special, our boy Cannon was BOW/WD for a 5 point major at the GVDF Belgian Tervuren Supported
Show on Feb 18, 2006. Gee, with family ringside to watch and cheer us on, it could have only been better if puppy daddy
extraordinarie Ward had been on hand to watch.
Here's a picture of Cannon, our Texas born boy, on a Texas ranch, just days after his fabulous 5 pt major. You
go Cannon!
