Gourou was bred and is owned by Philippe Suter of the well-known "Crepuscule
des Loups" kennel in France. He is the culmination of many years of the best French breeding, based in large part on the world
famous "Bois du Tot" kennels of the late Dr. Yves Surget. Gourou has been in the US for the past year, and while he has recently
made a return to his native land, in the Spring of 1998, he will make is permanent home in Michigan with Pat Morgan of Winjiammer
Belgians. Aside from showing him in conformation, Ms. Morgan is also training him in herding.
His show career has been outstanding. While in the Open class, he earned three
third place awards at the French National Specialty. These classes average entries in the 90s. Since attaining his Monacan
Championship, Gourou has competed in the Champions class at the French National, where in 1997, he was awarded Best Tervuren
Champion.
He has also won Best of Breed at the Spanish National Specialty and competed
in other European countries with positive results.
In the US, he became a UKC champion in four shows and quickly went on to become
the first Grand Champion Belgian Shepherd Dog (Sept. 97). A week later, he went on to take Best of Breed at the UBSDA National
Specialty under renowned French breeder judge Michel Griol. The entry was approximately 130.
Two weeks after that, Gourou earned his AKC Championship by going Winners
Dog, Best of Winners and Best of Breed at the ABTC Regional Specialty in Maryland. The entry was approximately 100 and thejudge
was the well respected French breeder/judge Marie-Francoise Berton-Sarlat. Gourou finished with four majors, earned under
Col. William Gish, as well as breeder judges L.E. Stanbridge and Sharon Redmer. Ms. Redmer awarded him Winners Dog, Best of
Winners and Best of Opposite Sex at another ABTC Regional Specialty.
Gourou's hips are "A" rated in France -- the highest rating possible -- and
Excellent by the Orthopedic Foundation or Animals. His elbows are normal. His eyes were CERF Clear in 1997.
His offspring in Europe are of very high quality, earning him the title of
Elite Reproducer (R.E. ). Of European dogs, he is the most consistent producer of scissors bites. His offspring tend to mature
and grow slowly. He consistently throws beautiful, well-constructed puppies with great character!
